In 1566 Protestant and Catholic nobles entered into a treaty, the Compromis of the nobles. The treaty is aimed against the heresy placards. As a result of king Philips’s strict legislation non-Catholics were persecuted in bloody ways. On April 5th 1566 300 nobles assembled to offer the famous Petition of Nobles to Regent Margaret of Parma. The petition is not purposefully set against king Philips II but against the Inquisition. Margaret of Parma yielded out of fear for commotion.
