During the reign of Jan van Avennes, earl of Henegouwen, the Zealanders and Flemings conquered part of his domain, amongst which the town of Haarlem. As the image shows, the flag of Holland is displayed in Haarlem to encourage its inhabitants to fight, resulting in the defeat of the Zealanders and Flemings.
