The picture shows several duels at a knights tournament. Between the 11th and the 16th century knights tournaments where common all over Europe. The so called Jousting was a single combat with stump or sharp lances. The knights, riding on their decorated horses are equipped with helmets, panaches and shields. In the foreground of the picture on the tribune the prince is depicted who is head of the tournament. In the background you can see spectators, tents and the castle.
