Construction of a cathedral in the middle Ages Jerusalem, 1968 - The picture shows a rare, contemporary medieval depiction of construction works of a cathedral. According to the subtitle this woodblock printing originally served as illustration in a manuscript from the 15th century. The picture was painted by the famous French painter Jean Foucquet (1420-1481), whose style of painting includes late Gothic as well as early Renaissance elements. This painting should illustrate the construction of the temple of Jerusalem. On the picture you can see stonecutters working on the stone blocks and laborers carrying material. High above on the parts of the building which have already been finished you can see a big wooden treadwheel used for the grid winch system.
